Oral Reply by Senior Minister of State for Transport Dr Amy Khor to Parliamentary Question on Electric Vehicle Early Adoption Incentive

03 Mar 2025In Parliament

Mr Louis Ng Kok Kwang asked the Minister for Transport whether the Ministry will consider increasing the quantum of rebates provided under the Electric Vehicle Early Adoption Incentive scheme and extending the scheme to the end of 2026.

Reply by Senior Minister of State for Transport Dr Amy Khor:

1.     The Electric Vehicle Early Adoption Incentive (EEAI) scheme was introduced in 2021 to encourage adoption of electric cars by narrowing the upfront cost gap between electric and Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) cars. Adoption of electric cars has been increasing; last year, around one third of new car registrations were electric cars.

2.     We will review the EEAI later this year, taking into consideration factors such as EV adoption rates and upfront cost difference across powertrains.
